EPA Victoria looks for its first CISO

EPA Victoria becomes cybersecurity conscious.

The Environment Protection Authority in the Australian state of Victoria is looking for its first Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) as it looks to mature its culture of Information Security.

For nearly 50 years, EPA Victoria has been operating as the State’s environmental regulator, it sets and enforces environmental standards to help ensure all Victorians can enjoy clean air, healthy waterways and pollutant-free land.

To achieve the best possible environmental outcomes for Victoria, the EPA has increasingly shifted its focus from minimising the effects of environmental harm, to preventing it from happening in the first place.

To help the organisaiton achieve this, the EPA is now recruiting its inaugural CISO. The role will be full-time, two year fixed term role to lead a team and deliver the security and privacy roadmap, developing EPA’s security maturity in line with the VPDSS.

As CISO:
• Lead the design, development, implementation and ongoing improvement of information security     strategy, policies, controls and the functions and design of relevant systems
• Provide specialist leadership and advice on information security functions
• Drive information security best practice across all parts of the business

About the Role:
The CISO is a leadership role in EPA IT, accountable for ensuring systems, networks, and data are protected and that the organisation is best positioned to defend and minimise the risk of cyber-attacks. Reporting to the CIO, they will be accountable for the overall information security environment across the whole of EPA.

In the senior leadership role, they will have significant expertise in design, implementation and operation of information security processes, systems, and better practices.

The CISO will work with stakeholders to explain the importance of Information Security and they will lead the development, enhancement and monitoring of EPA’s information security strategy, cyber practices, controls and policies.

They will also promote a security mindset across the organisation, driving adherence to and further improving EPA’s maturity against Victorian Protective Data Security Standards (VPDSS). As CISO, they will have several staff direct reports. They also will manage staff workloads and priorities for your area of responsibility and ensure projects and products are delivered on time and to a high quality.
