Global public cloud platform providers are rapidly entering the low-code market
In the era of digital transformation, the demand for accelerated app development and intelligent automation has led innovative enterprises to explore the potential of emerging technologies. According to a report by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, Microsoft and Salesforce have emerged as leaders in the low-code space due to their integration of generative AI capabilities.
The report, titled “Low-Code Platforms: Competitive Landscape Assessment,” highlights the intense competition within the low-code market segment. Microsoft has strengthened its competitive position by combining its Power Automate offering with the new Azure OpenAI service. On the other hand, Salesforce has consolidated its Salesforce Flow/Automation and Einstein tools, including Einstein GPT CRM tools, within its new Data Cloud platform.
Charlotte Dunlap, Research Director at GlobalData, explains, “Global public cloud platform providers such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are rapidly entering the low-code market by introducing visualization tools, automation capabilities, and, importantly, new generative AI strategies and technologies. Emerging technologies like generative AI will play a crucial role among DevOps teams, with capabilities already being integrated into some low-code, automation, and security platforms.”
Low-code vendors have disrupted the application platform market by offering a model-driven visual approach that significantly speeds up the app development process and fosters collaboration between business and IT stakeholders.
Dunlap further states, “This is achieved through high-productivity design tools, AI-injected connectors to backend systems, increased use of ML models, and intelligent automation technologies—all of which address complex workflows. AI has been incorporated into numerous solutions in the low-code market, building on next best action models to react more quickly to event-driven architectures.”
The emergence of generative AI technologies is expected to eliminate the need for extensive coding and scripting, automating operational provisioning among DevOps team members.
Dunlap concludes, “By consolidating these innovations into low-code platforms and solutions, complex configurations required to respond to business events can be abstracted, further automating business processes and enhancing the customer experience. It’s not surprising that emerging technologies, including process automation, application security, and observability—which often pose challenges to adoption—are being integrated with low-code platforms.”
