5G and 4G/LTE enterprise wireless WAN market

The Enterprise Wireless WAN market has witnessed significant growth and maturity

According to a forecast by International Data Corporation (IDC), worldwide revenues for the 5G and 4G/LTE Enterprise Wireless WAN market, which is now referred to as the Enterprise Wireless WAN market, are projected to reach $US5.5 billion in 2027. This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.8 per cent over the forecast period from 2023 to 2027. The market’s revenue in 2022 was just under $US1.9 billion.

The Enterprise Wireless WAN market has witnessed significant growth and maturity over the past five years, with LTE advancing as a standalone technology and the introduction of 5G bringing enhanced reliability to wireless WAN offerings. The market has evolved beyond being a fail-over solution for other access technologies and has become a primary connectivity option in many cases.

In 2022, 5G Enterprise Wireless WAN solutions experienced rapid scaling in both the branch and mobile markets. While Internet of Things (IoT) use saw slightly slower growth, it still achieved double-digit growth. Overall, Enterprise Wireless WAN has transitioned from being a supporting technology to becoming a critical capability.

Patrick Filkins, Research Manager at IDC, emphasizes that 4G/LTE and 5G solutions are playing an increasingly important role in SD-WAN (Software-Defined Wide Area Network) and enterprise edge initiatives. These solutions are being widely deployed to connect public safety vehicles, public and private transportation systems, and industrial environments that require mobile solutions.

The IDC report titled “5G and 4G/LTE Enterprise Wireless WAN Forecast, 2023-2027” provides an annual forecast for the Enterprise Wireless WAN market, including both routers and gateways. The report offers a market overview, highlighting the drivers and challenges faced by technology suppliers in this industry.
