Western Sydney Airport connected with TransGrid Telecomms

Connection incorporates high speed WaveLink and Internet connectivity.

TransGrid Telecommunications has delivered critical telecommunications infrastructure to the Western Sydney International Airport site at Badgerys Creek.

The connection works were carried out by TransGrid and included stringing 20 kilometres of optical ground wire (OPGW) conductor from Sydney West Substation to the Airport site. This connection incorporates high speed WaveLink and Internet connectivity over the TransGrid fibre network.

The completion of this telecommunications infrastructure is in addition to TransGrid’s successful delivery of critical electricity supply to the Western Sydney International Airport site.

TransGrid’s transmission project included the relocation of 3.2 kilometres of above ground high-voltage power line, which was critical to allow a substantial program of works to take place for the Airport, including the major program of earthworks that started in 2018.

The Western Sydney International Airport Experience Centre is open to the public, allowing visitors to learn more about the Airport and the benefits it will bring to Western Sydney through an interactive digital experience.

Glenn Wood head of telecommunications at TransGrid, said “we are delighted to have been selected by Western Sydney International Airport to provide key telecommunications services at the Airport’s site office and Experience Centre.”
