WA-Govt. owned official bullion mint looking to adopt digital transformation programs.
One Australia’s largest integrated and only fully accredited precious metals enterprise, The Perth Mint, owned by the Western Australian Government, has appointed industry veteran Brad Wearn to the role of CIO.
His impressive background in technical and digital strategy includes holding CIO roles at BHP Iron Ore and South32.
It’s been an exciting few weeks for Wearn, who recently added the title ‘Dad of an Olympic Gold-medal winner’ to his resume, with his son Matt taking out Olympic Gold in the Men’s Laser Sailing class at the Tokyo Olympics.
“Matt’s determination and the way he deals with adversity is what really inspires me,” Wearn said.
“He’s got focus and unwavering self-belief that he will achieve his goals no matter what it takes.”
As Chief Information Officer, Wearn’s focus at The Perth Mint will be to take a strategic approach with Business Technology solutions that engage, enhance and simplify the user journey for employees.
“We’ll be transforming from a traditional in-house application and infrastructure-focused team to one that embraces platform thinking and drives the business adoption of strategic digital platforms,” he said.
Top industry resource companies are now adopting and driving digital transformation programs into their daily operations. Although, The Perth Mint is on a slightly smaller scale, Wearn acknowledges the importance of moving towards digital transformation.
“The big resources companies are driving digital transformation programs because they have squeezed all they can out of Six Sigma and the like for operational efficiency improvements.”
According to Wearn, The Perth Mint has made a strategic investment in several platform technologies, including Microsoft’s Three Cloud (Azure, Dynamics 365, Microsoft 365) strategy.
“We are adopting Microsoft’s Power Platform. That will be cool to enable the ‘citizen developer’ in Gold Corporation,” he said.
As Wearn builds his team, he looks to support and extend the technology aspects by building capability in Service Integration and Management (SIAM), planning and architecture, program management, vendor performance management and cyber security.
Wearn is looking for people with experience in modern digital platforms who embrace systems thinking.
“We are looking for individuals with strong work ethic, resilience and being personally accountable for outcomes on our team, so if that sounds like you then we would love to have you onboard,” Wearn said.
