Thailand merges two telecoms in one company

National Telecommunications Public Company Limited with the potential to provide services, especially in 5G and satellites.

Thailand’s state telecoms TOT Public Company Limited (TOT) and CAT Telecom Public Company Limited (CAT) have been merged into National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT).

The Ministry of Finance passed a resolution approving TOT Public Company Limited and CAT Telecom Public Company Limited to merge into one company.

As proposed by the Board of Directors of TOT Public Company Limited in order to reduce redundancy in operations and investment between TOT Public Company Limited and CAT Telecom Public Company Limited and promote efficiency enhancement. Use of property Especially from the integration of the telecommunication network.

The Cabinet on January 14, 2020 approved in principle for TOT Public Company Limited and CAT Telecom Company Limited to merge in accordance with the proposal of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. For TOT Public Company Limited and CAT Telecom Public Company Limited to proceed with the merger under the relevant laws.

By holding the opinion of the Ministry of Finance said It is a resolution of the shareholders’ meeting in accordance with Section 23 of the State Enterprise Capital Act 2542 from now on.

On September 1, 2020, the Cabinet Resolution, chaired by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, chaired by the Cabinet. Resolved, acknowledge, and agree as The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MD) proposed as follows:

  • Acknowledge the progress of the action. Merged TOT Plc. And CAT Telecom Plc. In accordance with the merger plan of TOT Plc. And CAT Telecom Plc. State Enterprise Capital Act B.E. 2542 of TOT Plc. And CAT Telecom Plc. To the National Telecommunications Company (Public) Company Limited under Section 153 of the Public Limited Companies Act B.E. 2535 which is in the process of Carrying out legal discussions with relevant agencies that have not yet been resolved
  • Acknowledged the use of the new company name arising from the merger of TOT Plc. And CAT Telecom Plc. British “National Telecom Public Company Limited: NT Plc.” Public Company Limited B.E. 2535 and its amendments Agreed to extend the period of merger according to the Cabinet’s resolution on January 14, 2020 for a further 6 months from the original schedule.

On December 18, 2020, Putthipong Punnakan, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES), said that according to the Cabinet (Cabinet) approved the operation. Merged between TOT Public Company Limited or TOT and CAT Telecom Company Limited or CAT as the National Telecom Public Company Limited (National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) with the registration date on January 7, 2021, after a successful merger, NT has the most integrated infrastructure.

NT will become a National Telecommunications Public Company Limited with the potential to provide services, especially in 5G and satellites, and bring digital services to the health, agriculture, and transport sectors.
