Standard Chartered appoints CIO for Consumer, Private & Business Banking

Former CIO leaves for other opportunities.

Standard Chartered (the Group) has announced the appointment of Anshu Sharma Raja as CIO Consumer, Private & Business Banking (CPBB).

She will be based in Singapore, reporting to Group Chief Information Officer Michael Gorriz from August 2021, subject to regulatory approval. Former CIO, Paul Macpherson served as CIO CPBB since 2018, will be leaving to pursue opportunities outside the Bank.

Raja joined the bank in September 2018 and in her current role as Global Head, Retail Banking Products Technology, has successfully led and delivered the modernisation of our digital platform for individual and business banking clients.

In her additional role leading Technology & Innovation in our Global Business Services locations, she has been instrumental in setting up a high performing engineering centre in Bangalore, and strengthening technology and innovation capabilities and engineering talent across our tech development centres in India, China and Malaysia.

Raja is a passionate diversity champion and continues to be an ambassador and mentor for our talent development efforts, said Standard CIO Michael Gorriz.

“Our ambitious growth plans for our affluent, mass and wealth management business rely on a modern, cloud-based architecture that delivers superior client products and experiences digitally,” he said. “With her considerable proven strengths as a trusted partner to business, her strong client focus, leadership and technical expertise, Anshu is well placed to drive and deliver the digital agenda which is the foundation of our strategy.

My thanks to Paul for his valued contributions in building a solid foundation for the business and tech teams to partner and drive strategy. We wish him every success in his next chapter.”

In June this year, Standard Chartered announced the appointment of Roel Louwhoff as Group Chief Digital, Technology & Innovation Officer.

Louwhoff was previously the chief operations and transformation officer at ING since 2014 and will be based in Singapore reporting to group CEO Bill Winters.

Michael Gorriz, who has served as Group Chief Information Officer since 2015, will retire in December to concentrate on his external board and advisory roles in Europe and Asia, said Winters.

Roel joins us at a critical time in our transformation into the agile, digital and future-focused organisation we need to be. We will benefit from his perspective as a digital leader and I look forward to working with him on taking our technology platform to even greater heights,” he said. “He takes over from the solid foundations Michael has laid: a strong and diverse technology leadership team and a modern, cloud-based architecture that is the bedrock for the Bank’s digital ambitions. We are grateful for Michael’s many contributions.”
