Japan’s vaccination booking site crashes

Linked to Salesforce’s global technical issues.

A number of media publications have reported that technical problems have halted Japan’s coronavirus vaccination booking system in a number of places, including parts of Tokyo and the western city of Minoh.

The Japan Times wrote the ministry has faced numerous technical problems throughout the pandemic, from a contact tracing application that failed to pass on vital information to a cumbersome database that health workers were reluctant to use.

According to Reuters the problems have been blamed on cloud computing vendor Salesforce.com’s global technical issues. With its CTO, Parker Harris claiming the issues were due to a “DNS issue causing” Salesforce’s “service to be inaccessible”.

Harris wrote on Twitter, this was an “isolated the issue and are in the process of bringing affected services back online. Customers may continue to experience issues as we work through remediation”.
